Welcome letter

Dear Colleagues,

We are all very pleased and honored that the 3rd International Conference on Spreading Depolarization (iCSD) will be held July 1- 3, 2019 in Yokohama, Japan.

The COSBID group held its first annual meeting in 2003. We are excited that the coming iCSD 2019 will be COSBID’s 21st meeting, and the first to be held outside of Europe or the United States. The enthusiasm of the COSBID group has finally “SPREAD” into Asia! The aim of this meeting, as it has been in previous meetings, is to investigate mechanisms of CSD and to translate new knowledge to the bedside.

Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city with easy access from Tokyo and has been an important harbor city connecting Japan to the rest of the world. Its unique and cosmopolitan cityscapes are closely related to Japan’s modernization efforts in the late 19th century. The city’s world-renowned sightseeing spots, Yokohama Chinatown and the Minato Mirai area, attract many visitors from all parts of Japan and around the world. One of the most attractive aspects of Yokohama is that you can find a combination of the old and new everywhere in the city, such as traditional buildings located near a new and trendy spot. Yokohama also impresses many visitors with its beautiful night views, which are uniquely different from its daytime views.

We are planning a special dinner on the 70th floor of the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel on the second day of the conference. We are sure that you will enjoy both the authentic traditional Japanese “Washoku” cuisine and the spectacular views from 277 meters above the ground.

Of particular note is that iCSD 2019 will be held as an official satellite meeting prior to the Brain & Brain PET 2019 meetings (held July 4-7, also in Yokohama). The meetings will be at nearby locations and you will be able to attend both without having to change hotels. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy your stay in Japan!

We also hope that the coming event will help promote CSD research not only in Europe and the U.S., but also in Japan and the rest of Asia, and further develop the COSBID group.

We look forward to welcoming you!!
